Day 18 – Whatever Tickles Your Fancy

Hmm... well since today (well, technically yesterday now) was Big Finish Day and I splurged on four Doctor Who audios from them, let's make this a Big Finish post! I'll talk about some of my faves, and if you like Big Finish please tell me what ones you think are good so I have ideas what to grab during the next sale or at Chicago TARDIS!

So anyway that's a selection of audiobooks I like! Tell me what else is good and I should start looking for! (I do have a bunch more that I didn't list here, because they weren't spectacular or I haven't listened to them yet - there's about *counts* wow, 34 audiobooks in my iTunes that I haven't listened to yet, most of them Doctor Who).

Now that I'm back... time to return to this!

Day 16 – Your Favorite Who-Related FanFic

Oooh that's a tough one. I have to give two and they're really series rather than single stories.

[livejournal.com profile] faithharkness has a whole AU, the Hannah-verse, that I adore. Grace is the main story (which is long but OMG so worth the read! Trust me!!!), but it was the list fics of everything Hannah learned working at Torchwood that hooked me initially. I don't even remember how I stumbled on them but I just remember reading the list going "Who is this Hannah character? I love her, but seriously why do they let her answer the phones?" :) Read anything by [livejournal.com profile] faithharkness, you'll not regret it!

My other pick is Children in Time by [livejournal.com profile] huskyfriends. And the sequel Children Through Time that's still in progress. Yeah I'm a bit biased considering Lynnae is totally based on me and I also have helped brainstorm a lot of what's in that series but it's still an awesome book. The first book was written for last year's TARDIS Big Bang, the first part of the sequel for Scifi Big Bang, the second part for this year's TARDIS Big Bang, and she's doing the rest for Torchwood Big Bang. It's again a very long story (the first book is over the 80K mark) but SOOOOO worth it!

Perfect timing, I hit the halfway mark before going offline for five days! :D

Day 15 – Favorite Who-Related Tumblr

I really haven't spent much..okay, ANY, time on Tumblr but I stumbled on this the other day and it's great!

Stupid Faces of Doctor Who

It's all goofy pictures of the Doctor (in all his incarnations) and companions. :) Wonderful time waster!

Day 14 – The Villain Who Scared You the Most

The Vashta Nerada. I think mostly because I am a librarian, I work in a library, and when the lights went out at work the other day my first thought was "OH NO THE VASHTA NERADA!"

Doesn't take much to freak me out ;) especially when it's Moffat's writing. He's too dang talented!

You're Donna Noble!

Oi! Wotch it, Martian boy! The Doctor thinks he can spout all kinds of ridiculous technobabble and 'Last Time Lord Angst' at you just because he's from outer space, huh? Well, you're not having any of it! You've got a heart of gold and a will of iron, and you're a rather boggling combination of a romantic idealist and a staunch realist. But you never let logical paradoxes get to you; you prefer to shoehorn the universe into a little box of your own perception. More often than not, it fits... probably because the universe is too intimidated to argue!

I really need to stop forgetting this... it's gonna take me a month and a half to finish this, especially since I'm gonna be offline Wed thru Sun!

Day 13 – Your Favorite Villain

Ooo that is a toughie. The Master is awesome, especially Ainley and Simm (my two fave Masters!) and for that matter, a whole lot of villains are great.

But I'm gonna have to go with the Daleks. I just love them so much, even if the "cup of tea" line in Victory of the Daleks totally ruined their killer image ;) But I love the new Power Ranger Daleks (see icon), and yes, I've knitted enough of them to be a fan.

Day 06 – Whatever Tickles Your Fancy

Well, inspired by seeing some of the wonderful women behind Chicks Dig Time Lords yesterday I thought I'd give a little bit of background on how I got into Doctor Who.

Anyway that's my rambling background...I return you to your regularly scheduled Torchwood squeeing (sorry if I don't join in but that's a rant for another day).

(again, posting kind of early cuz I'll be out all day tomorrow too)

Day 05 – Your Favorite Companion

Gee... I wonder... *points to userpic full of John Barrowman pictures*

Again, like I said one of the other days, it was "Utopia" that got me really hooked on Doctor Who and Jack that really pulled me in. I cosplay Jack most of the time, and I just love the character. Jack got me into Torchwood as well (though then I turned into an Ianto girl because Gareth is just that amazing).

(getting this posted now since I'll be offline all day)

Day 04 – Your Favorite Doctor

Ten is my man! I fell in love with Ten from the get go. Hey, he's Scottish, that's my excuse ;)

Four is a VERY close second. VERY close. I love Four's personality, and there's so many of his stories that I just adore.
knitchick1979: Drawing of Philip from Kamen Rider W transforming with the Heat Memory. (Threesome - Jack Rose Nine)
Day 03 – Your Favorite New Series Episode

My top favourites include "Smith & Jones", "Partners in Crime", "Shakespeare Code", "Empty Child", and "Tooth and Claw", but if I had to pick one favourite it would be "Utopia".

The very first episodes of Doctor Who I saw were "Daleks in Manhattan" and "Evolution of the Daleks" back when they first aired in the States back in August 2007. Then I missed a few weeks and the next episode I saw was "Utopia". I liked the Dalek episodes, but it was Utopia that really hooked me and turned me into a fan, right from Jack chasing down the TARDIS and clinging on for dear life. :) Yep, that's why I'm such a Jack fan, because that was what hooked me.

"Smith & Jones" I like because of the interaction between Martha and Ten, and the story line is interesting.
"Shakespeare Code" because I love Shakespeare. And OMG the flirting between Ten and Shakespeare is LOVE! Plus, Harry Potter references FTW!!!
"Empty Child" for very obvious reasons. Jack, Jack and oh yeah, JACK! :D
"Tooth & Claw" because it's in Scotland! And Ten speaks with a Scottish accent! Yes that's all it takes for me to love that episode. Though I do enjoy Queen Victoria...I think that may be partly why the Queen plays such a big role in my Torchwood universe.
"Partners in Crime" because Donna is the BEST and I just love how for half the episode they keep missing each other by a hair. It's just too awesome.
knitchick1979: Drawing of Philip from Kamen Rider W transforming with the Heat Memory. (Four and K9 playing chess)
Day 02 – Your Favorite Classic Series Episode

Well I'd say it's a three way tie between Pyramids of Mars, Genesis of the Daleks, and Destiny of the Daleks.

Pyramids of Mars I like because it's a great storyline, Sarah Jane is in it, and it has the best use of Scarf ever!! (when he uses the scarf as impromptu measuring tape when solving the puzzle in the Pyramid)

Genesis of the Daleks is really interesting for the moral implications of what the Time Lords sent the Doctor to do, basically, commit genocide. It gives some great background to the Daleks, and totally has implications relating to the Time War (I mean, if Four had stopped the Daleks then, would Eight/Nine whichever one he was then have needed to condemn Gallifrey as he did?). Plus Harry & Sarah Jane <3

Destiny of the Daleks is kind of a later sequel to Genesis, with Davros reappearing and all. Plus OMG DISCO MOVELLIANS! One of these days I'm gonna make a Movellian costume just for the epic lulz. Those are the funniest costumes ever! Plus if I ever cosplay Romana II it would be from this episode :D (though I'm more of a Romana I fan). Oh and when the Doctor's stuck under the beam, I love how he pulls out a book and starts arguing with it.

I think it's pretty obvious that I'm a Four fan ;) I do like the other Doctors, I just like Four a whole lot more.

Saw this over on [livejournal.com profile] rengeek's journal and thought I'd snag it. I've been neglecting my posting a bit lately anyway.

Okay there may still be refinements later on, but I've got my TARDIS blanket pattern pretty much done! I need to figure out how to draw the chart on the computer (I have it sketched out on graph paper but it's on like three rows because it's so loooooooong), and I'll be spiffing up the PDF soon when I get the other pieces done and the whole thing seamed. But especially since there's been such interest, I'm posting the pattern now, and I will then be attempting to offer it on Ravelry as a free download! :D

ETA: Realized, staring at my TARDIS bank last night, that the top tiers needed to be smaller. My internet died so I couldn't edit this last night.

I really need more knitting icons... )

So there it is. Feel free to use it, just don't sell it or sell the blanket so I don't get in trouble with Auntie Beeb. And if you do knit it up please let me know and send me pictures!!! And tell me if you find any errors, since this is my very first pattern. :)

I'm making a season 13 Doctor Who scarf using the pattern at wittylittleknitter.com, in KnitPicks Telemark sport weight wool. It's turning out nicely, especially now that I'm past the tan stripe!

I'll post pictures later, but if you're dying to see I've got a couple up on Flickr (though not of the bronze stripe in progress yet)
