Best Saturday!!!!
Oct. 18th, 2010 01:58 amYesterday was the best most awesome Saturday, not just because it was Sweetest Day and for the first time in many years I actually had a reason to care, but also because
bacon_fiend was in town and we had an Order of the Blue Box gathering!!
(Warning: NOT at ALL dial-up friendly!!)
So the KnitMobile got herself a workout yesterday!! The day started out with me making a quick run into Walgreens to grab some photos I'd had printed, and performing reference service in the middle of the store. I swear I am a librarian... this lady was asking the photo gal about the Kodak Photo Machines (but didn't know what they were called) and I haven't seen any of those in a store in months so I pointed her to the nearby FedEx Kinko's. Then I stopped at the Post Office to check my PO Box (and get my Starbucks Free Drink card!!!) before picking up
huskyfriends.
Next stop was the Starbucks in Winnetka where
chicago_girl_7 works. We went online til she was ready (after she brought me a yummy Peppermint Vanilla Bean Frappucino, yummmmmmmmm). Then we booked it to Rosemont for the Anime Central staff meeting. It was great to see all our friends on Acen staff, it was an all staff meeting but very few people realized it was because no one sent out a reminder, but it was kind of a good thing. They gave us a tiny room cuz there was a multiple sclerosis conference in the hotel. But I got a Brent hug so it was way worth the trip!!! :D
The meeting went a little longer than I thought and we had to book it out of there since
bacon_fiend and
rengeek were waiting at my house. It took longer to get out of the parking lot (since people apparently don't understand the concept of stick the dang ticket in the slot) than it did to get to my house - I'm 3 miles from the Hyatt.
I gave
rengeek his Sweetest Day gift, a jar of homemade chocolate chip cookies and a framed picture of us (he had flowers sent to my work on Friday, beautiful roses and calla lillies, my favourite!) Then Liz piled in the KnitMobile and we headed over to Eisenhower Library to get
pockychopstix from work. While there I went and grabbed the Real Ghostbusters DVDs they own there :D
Next stop was Flat Top Grill in Oak Park!!
huskyfriends rode with
rengeek as navigator, while I managed to find an awesome parking spot right on Oak Park Avenue by the park. :D We got a great big circular table right near the front where we proceeded to be total geeks (like we always do - it's just multiplied when we're together).
First order of nerdiness: our sticks. For those who've never been to Flat Top, you put your name on a little stick that also has your table number and stick that in the bowl with your stuff to be cooked, that way they know who to give the bowl to.

The sticks are: Myfanwy, Rose, Rassilon, Gwen, The Doctor, and Romana. See if you can guess who's was whose :)
Then once we all filled our bowls and brought them up to be cooked, the real insanity began. Our table guests? The Seal of Rassilon and Hathman!
huskyfriends brought out a mini Rose scarf that she'd crocheted and that Hathman happily modeled. Spare sticks were also brought into play.

Then, alas,
rengeek had to leave for work :( but we got a couple more pics before he left.

Next stop for the fully packed KnitMobile was Half Price Books in Skokie!! Along the way much singing was to be had in the car (it took a while since there's really no easy direct route between the two places). We listened to "Voodoo Child" (from the Doctor Who episode "Sound of Drums"), "The Ballad of Jayne", some Doctor Horrible, and some Chameleon Circuit.
We spent a good amount of time in Half Price Books. We found Doctor Who books (I grabbed the K-9 one), Doctor Who videos (
pockychopstix scored The Robot on VHS), DVDs (I got the Transformers movie in the Optimus Prime transforming case), and more.
Then we dropped stuff in my car and before attempting to see if the Halloween store was open past 9, we decided to see how many cars my Season 13 scarf plus
pockychopstix's scarf would span. Three whole cars plus a little more!

Since the Halloween store was closed we went over to Barnes & Noble (they're open til 10). At one point
chicago_girl_7 got separated from the group and found us by the sheer sound of the Squee. Yeah we're loud.

After that, alas, it was time to split up. Well, partially. We dropped
pockychopstix off at home and
bacon_fiend off at her car (left at my house). Then the remaining three geeks headed off to Gene & Jude's to pick up dinner for
huskyfriends' dad (or at least that was the initial plan). Then stopped by to see him. Then it was off down to the city to drop off
chicago_girl_7 then dropped off
huskyfriends and home where I just barely resisted the urge to go next door and wash some mouths out with soap.
Finally... one last picture. I wanted to show off where I chose to put one of the cute Ten chibis I got from
pockychopstix
