I'm still in shock, it seems like a dream that I haven't yet woken up from. But yes, I am now engaged to
rengeek as of yesterday.
So yesterday, as some of you may know, was our fifth Whoniverse photoshoot. My friend Carole & I started doing these two years ago as a way to have the fun of the photoshoots we do at Anime Central but with different scenery and a little more time to enjoy ourselves. The first one was in October of 2009, and that's where Ken & I first met in person (we'd already begun chatting on LJ).
We started at River Park and as the group slowly grew we moved from the little bus shelter like structure near the street down to the Riverwalk. Ken was trying to pull Carole away to video us for a "fan project", but she was too busy wrangling around 20 cosplayers (at this point). After our other friend
pockychopstix videoed a shot of the Doctors all chasing the Master (EPIC), he tapped her for the "fan film".
While everyone marched back up toward the shelter, she recorded us, dressed as the Doctor & Romana, as we heard the cloister bell ring and then checked the TARDIS' mobile screen to see what was wrong. It was a video of Doctor Darkness (our friend Liz) announcing that she was going to get rid of all the love in the world with her hate ray!
So then he was like, oh what shall we do?? Digging in his pocket he offered me a Jelly Baby. I reached in the bag and thought it was one massively melted together Jelly Baby...then I realized it was a solid fuzzy block. A ring box. Inside the ring box was a paper, that had a picture of Optimus Prime saying, "Marry the girl Doctor". And the ring has a TARDIS blue sapphire in it! (the ring is exactly what I would have chosen myself, it's just perfect for me!)
Ken got on one knee and asked me to be his Companion and wife. Cue the wibbly tears. I said yes, of course! He then showed me the "Plan B" video - Doctor Darkness cursing Romana and the Doctor for defeating her with incredible love!!
We then rejoined the rest of the group, there were many many hugs :D The boys were already plotting how to make the bachelor party super geeky (Rory's stag-do shirts were being discussed), as well as how to make "used ghost traps" to hang off the back of the car instead of the typical cans (since, A, we're both Ghostbusters and B, I want the Ecto for my wedding ride, not some stupid limo). Of course, I ADORE my cousin for saying, when I mentioned about the geeky bachelor party, that "two can play at that game" :D So how many people have competition between the bride's friends and the groom's friends as to who's bachelor/bachelorette party will be geekier?
We stopped by my house on the way to dinner with the rest of the group to break the news to my parents. It was lucky that Carole & I had just happened to choose the Super China Buffet that's just a few blocks away to do dinner.
So, the next step is finishing my Master's. I'm in my last semester, just two more months of work and I'll be done with class mid-December, and walking in January (I signed up for my cap & gown this week, I just got the paperwork to fill out to get tickets for the ceremony yesterday, and the souvenir tassel is already hanging in my car). We are figuring once I graduate & get my career path settled, we'll start the planning, probably after Acen. The wedding won't be until late 2012 or sometime in 2013. But we've taken the next step, and I'm super excited about it!
I do, however, have one piece of the wedding already. Tonight we went over to my grandmother's for dinner, and she gave me a saint medallion that belonged to my grandfather. It's in the shape of a key, and it has three saint medallions - Saint Christopher, Sacred Heart, and I'm not sure of the third (the text is too worn). So I have my something old. I was just telling my mom, I had thought about looking for something of Papa's for my something old...and Nana read my mind.
