Gratuitous Icon Post!

knitchick1979I just made myself a few more icons so I thought I'd do a brief little GIP showing them off!
I'll start with my new default, the Mac Love icon!
Since I got a MacBook and noticed that John Barrowman has Mac laptops (look at the laptop he's using in "The Making of Me", a black MacBook. What he was using on the One Show? New aluminum-cased MacBook like the one I have), of course I had to make a Mac Love icon with him in it! I pulled John and the laptop from the background and then converted the background to black & white and blurred it. Then, because I have to be a TRUE geek, I put the plain black Torchwood wallpaper on my MacBook and took a screengrab, then shrunk it and rotated it to go on JB's laptop screen in the pic. Then I added the "Mac Love" title and a border.
Next is Jack sleeping.
The image is from the episode Small Worlds (screencap from The Institute, they have some of the best screencaps!) I love the shot, Jack looks so dang HOT sleeping there! But I had to do some brightening up so that he was a bit more visible (it's a dimly lit scene). Then I threw it into the Time Machine function I have in Paint Shop Pro Photo X2, making it look like an early colour photo. A little trimming of the photo border that gets added (only because it came out 100x104 pixels), and I had a unique take on this shot :)
Next one is the "Smug Jack" icon.
This one was fairly simple. It's also a shot from Small Worlds, right after the sleeping shot when he's talking to Ianto. Again, had to lighten the picture so he's a bit more visible, then I cut away the office and added a Hubble picture (from NASA) in the background instead.
Then I did the 3D glasses shot --
I just happened to notice when selecting Jack from the screenshot that there was a REALLY good view of the 3D glasses hanging on his lamp and I couldn't resist cutting those out and making an icon of those too! Really didn't do anything but make a square selection and then use the buttonize effect to give some dimension to the edges of the icon.
Then came the Jack in uniform icon.
Again from Small Worlds, I think John Barrowman looks super hot in uniform and I really wanted an icon of this. Pulled Jack from the background and made the background black & white. Then I added the heart and a tiny border.
Then, the Jack Worried icon.
This shot is from the end of From Out of the Rain, when Jack hears the circus-y music after the kid drops the film canister. I think he looks really good here, I love the vest and light blue shirt combo. Pulled him from the background, put a NASA photo of the moon in the background and added a little bit of a glow to Jack.
Last of my icons, JB Italy.
This is from this storytime program he did, CeeBeeBees? I forget where I got the screengrab, I've been meaning to make an icon of this for so long for the lone reason of he is wearing an Italy shirt! Since my family is Italian this makes me very happy. I want that shirt! :D So I cut John from the background and tossed in an Italian flag behind him.
Then while I was at it, I made two icons as a little surprise gift for my friend Carole (huskyfriends), who is out of town and will return to find two new icons uploaded to her account (bwahahahahaha!)
The first one she had asked for a while ago, she noticed that Owen had a purple pen in his mouth toward the beginning of Cyberwoman (her favourite colour is purple).
I wanted to really emphasize the pen, so I made the background black and white, then lowered the saturation levels on Owen and raised them big time on the pen.
The other one is a shot I happened upon (from Everything Changes) while I was searching for the "pen porn" shot above.
I just cracked up when I saw this shot and knew I had to make it into a icon for Carole. Fairly simple - made the background black & white and added the *LOL* text. :)
Phew! That's all from today. I also made a few more Relay button designs. I dunno if I'll post those at all. And I reworked one of my favourite wallpapers that I made some months ago with Torchwood series 3 filming photos, I had originally made it in 1024x768 size for my desktop and I wanted it sized for my Mac. So I resized the canvas to 1280x800 and shifted the pictures around a bit to fill in the extra space.
Oh one last note...please ask me if you want to use any of these icons. I've had my icons swiped before and it's not nice. One of these days I'm gonna make a batch of icons for sharing but right now a lot of my icons I made specifically for me.
Anyway...bedtime now. :) I'm not home tomorrow (er...today) but I might end up making more icons on Monday if the weather ends up being wet like they're saying.
