Hey all!
I am home safely from Chicago TARDIS. This was the best convention EVER, I'm struggling to find the words to describe how amazing it was!
My eyes are closing because I'm exhausted but I just wanted to post a brief report before I pass out.
Quick highlights of the weekend:
~Torchwood Babiez panel, meeting Tammy & Katy was just a blast! Especially since I've been talking to Tammy on Twitter a lot, I was very happy to meet her in person and she's just as fun in person as on Twitter!
~Giving Nick Briggs the Dalek I knitted him. I knitted an all black Dalek to look like Dalek Sec as a gift for him. He first goofed around with the bag, strangling himself with the tissue paper (if there is video out there PLEASE TELL ME! I want a copy! That was beyond hilarious!) Then he pulled out the Dalek and hugged it :D Then India Fisher and Jason Haigh-Ellery were examining Rose.
~Becoming semi-famous throughout the con for the knitted Daleks. SERIOUSLY! So many people kept stopping us because of them (Naomi had Rose, Carole had Caty and I had Gally), I had to tell a lot of people no when they begged me to knit Daleks for them. I felt bad, but I really just don't have the time to knit any at the moment, not to mention I need a long break from that pattern because much as I love knitting those, it is painful. But WOW even the GUESTS know me as the person who knitted the Daleks!
~A very entertaining opening ceremonies, complete with a gal in a Dalek dress marching Nick up to the front at plunger-point (kinda, she just had gloves not an actual plunger but it was still cool) and Paul McGann tied to Daphne Ashbrook by a Four Scarf knitted by Tara Wheeler. I got a video of the opening ceremony which will be posted soon.
~Playing the $25,000 Pyramids of Mars game with Carole (
huskyfriends) as my partner and coming within two points of the win. We won round one and two, and lost in the final round by only two points (to a REALLY good team that was getting nearly every answer, so we don't feel so bad)
~I made a knitted cherry blossom flower and assembled a little cherry blossom necklace as a gift for Naoko Mori, and she was just so sweet! She loved the Daleks too :) She was trying to figure out where to sign my Torchwood DVDs and joked about signing across John's face because apparently he does that to her sometimes (but she didn't, because she's that sweet!)
~Naoko's reaction to my WWII Jack costume. She thought it was great, and that made my day!
~Chicks Dig Time Lords panel. Completely made of WIN. Man there were a lot of librarians in the audience (yes this came up in the panel). So cannot wait until it comes out!!!
~My first Masquerade! I was terrified, so very nervous, because I have terrible stage fright and that's why I'm usually the backstage person. There were so many great entries, and it was fun chatting with everyone. I was glad Ali (
alycorn and Liz
bacon_fiend entered too because at least I wasn't by my lonesome with no one I knew there. Actually by this point in the weekend I kind of knew most of the people entering :D
~The photo op session after the masquerade was tons of fun! I felt like a celebrity on the red carpet with all the flashes! Lots of fun! Best part was when this young gentleman came up and asked for a photo of me and the TARDIS (he couldn't have been more than ten? eight? I suck at telling ages), which he took with a big digital SLR that was half as big as he was! He showed me the shot on the display and it looked terrific!
~Giordano's with
booksavvy,
robling_t,
bacon_fiend and
huskyfriends, good food and great friends!
~"Lobby con". Sitting in the lobby knitting my TARDIS blanket while uploading photos and listening to Rob Shearman talking, just totally chillaxing at the end of the day.
~Tony Lee spying the Seal of Rassilon. 'nuff said.
~Meeting Dave, the man who built the AWESOME Dalek Sec that was on display next to the TARDIS Sat & Sun. That Dalek is just gorgeous, so amazing, and he's not even done with it (it still isn't fully armed yet) He is planning to come to Chicago Comic Con (aka Wizard World) and I so cannot WAIT. Yes, I've already offered myself up for extermination (in my Jack costume).
~Embarrassing myself in front of Naoko and the entire ballroom doing the Wayne's World "We're not worthy!" bit to Naoko. Yes, I did. I said I wasn't worth and I didn't know how she could run around in those heels (then I asked about the new Lennon movie she's playing Yoko Ono in)
~Watching Naoko sign the inside of the Dalek and then sign the inside of the TARDIS. I stayed after and helped with the teardown, and took a brief moment to step inside and see what she wrote. She drew a little chibi of herself with a glass of wine! So adorable!
~Getting a Big Finish audio to have signed by Rob Shearman and ending up accidentally picking what is apparently a GREAT story (Rob said it's one of the best, India Fisher said it's her favourite...I just picked it at random but I picked a good one to get apparently!)
~Watching "Waters of Mars" on the big screen.
~Seeing my new friend get called up to the stage by Phil Collinson, he had asked them to print a second copy of her photo with him from Saturday (when she was dressed as the TARDIS) and he asked her to sign it! He said that was his favourite costume of the con!
~Putting my accidentally oversized UNIT beret that I knitted on the Dalek for some photos (I asked Dave for permission first, of course)
~Being given the opportunity to SIT IN THE DALEK! (yes that deserves all caps) After I took the beret off, he asked "Would you like to sit in it?" and I'm like "Could I?" YES I GOT TO SIT IN DALEK SEC MY LIFE IS COMPLETE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So....I will write up a more detailed report later but for now I really need some sleep. My feet hurt, my eyes hurt, my back hurts, and I want to sleep in my own bed but this weekend was worth every ache and pain. I had so much fun and I cannot wait for Chicago TARDIS 11 next year!
